Rugby, Rowing and Rules.

Various parts of the media are today bemoaning the fact that Scotland were beaten by Australia in the rugby yesterday and that if they had had another couple of minutes they may have scored again and won. A few years ago I remember an Olympic rowing commentator saying that if a race, in which Australia were beaten by Great Britain by the smallest distance, had been another 50 metres, Australia would have won. No! The rugby match was XXX minutes and the rowing race was XXX metres. Louis Hamilton is a F1 world champion because he is fastest by thousandths of a second. These are the rules and without rules there would be no point in holding these contests.

p.s. My grandmother's maiden name was Macdonald and I was supporting Scotland yesterday.
